GTA 6's $400 Collector's Box Is Already Being Scalped for Up to $1,750 on eBay
eBay resellers are asking up to $1,750 for the $399.99 collector's box — while it's still in stock on the Rockstar Store. Fans are calling for a boycott and filing mass eBay complaints.
It took about two days. Rockstar's $399.99 GTA 6 collector's box — the one that doesn't include the game — went up for pre-order on September 24. By the weekend, resellers on eBay were asking as much as $1,750 for it.
The listings, first spotted by GamesRadar and covered by multiple gaming outlets, mostly cluster between $750 and $1,500, with the most extreme asking price reported at $1,750 — more than four times retail. The average ask sits around $1,000.
Here's the part that makes the scalpers' gamble so brazen: the box is still in stock. As of the latest reporting, anyone can still buy The Goodtime State: Vice City Collection on the Rockstar Games Store for $399.99, plus £349.99 in the UK and C$559 in Canada. The resellers are betting that the one-per-customer purchase limit and GTA 6 hype will eventually create scarcity — and that impatient fans will pay a premium to skip the wait.
The community is not having it. Fan forums and social media have responded with the expected mix of ridicule and anger: the box contains no disc and no download code — just 11 merchandise items including the Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, and the Leonida map poster — so resellers are asking triple-digit markups for souvenirs that don't even play the game. Some fans are calling for a boycott of the resale listings, and others have filed mass complaints with eBay, arguing the listings violate the platform's pre-sale rules since the physical box doesn't ship until November 19, 2026.
The pricing context doesn't help Rockstar's case. GTA 5's collector's edition cost $150 and included the game itself alongside a similar haul of merchandise. The closest comparison to the GTA 6 box is the Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector's Box, which was $99.99 and also excluded the game — making the GTA 6 box roughly four times the price of its spiritual predecessor.
To be fair to the scalpers — a phrase we never expected to write — this is how GTA 6's pre-launch economy works now. The limited-edition GTA 6 vinyl went through the same cycle two weeks ago: £108.99 at retail, sold out in under an hour, then flipped on eBay for £220 to £490, with some listings pushing past €900. Anything Rockstar puts a finite number on is getting arbitraged.
Two things worth keeping in mind before you touch one of these listings. First, asking prices are not selling prices: plenty of $1,500 listings will sit unsold, and some of the sketchier ones may be outright scams — at least one outlet specifically warns about scammers riding the wave. Second, there's no reason to pay the markup while the official store still has stock. The only scenario where the scalpers win is if the box sells out — and Rockstar hasn't said it's limited beyond the one-per-customer rule.
If it does sell out, expect this story to get another chapter. For now, it's a live demonstration of how much money is orbiting GTA 6 eight weeks before launch: enough that people are paying four figures for a box that doesn't contain the game.
