GTA 6 May Skip Florida's Theme Parks — Rockstar Explains What It Kept Instead

Florida without the theme parks? Rockstar's environment team says it had to be ruthless about what made the cut — and Central Florida didn't win.

For all its Florida flavor, Grand Theft Auto 6 may skip the one thing the state is most famous for: its theme parks.

Based on what Rockstar has shown of Florida's central region so far, the game appears to have no parody of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios or SeaWorld — an absence that would make it the rare GTA setting without a direct swipe at a real-world tourist machine.

The explanation comes from Paul MacPherson, Rockstar's senior vice president of environment art, speaking to Game Informer for its GTA 6 cover story. The team, he said, had to be selective about which locations it could incorporate — every candidate had to earn its place against the game's needs.

“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distill a list down that best works with and serves the game's needs,” MacPherson said. “So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!”

That is a polite way of saying the map team was ruthless. Leonida stretches from the Florida-Georgia line to the southernmost Keys — Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park — and six regions can only hold so much. Port Gellhorn stands in for Florida's smaller, struggling tourist-trap areas, which suggests the game's tourism parody leans toward roadside kitsch rather than the mega-parks of the Orlando corridor.

This would be a departure for the series, which has a long tradition of fictionalizing real brands and landmarks. But it is also consistent with how Rockstar builds worlds: density over name-dropping. The Game Informer coverage emphasizes hand-crafted detail and enterable interiors over empty space, and a theme park that exists just to be recognized would be the opposite of that philosophy.

Nothing is final until November 19, of course. Rockstar has shown roughly a hundred screenshots and a 27-minute Extended Look, but it has not shown everything — and the studio loves a surprise. The absence so far does not rule out a parody park hiding in the remaining unrevealed footage.

But if Central Florida really is park-free, it tells you something about how Rockstar sees its own creation: the “full Florida experience” does not require the things a postcard would show. It requires the things only Florida has.

Grand Theft Auto 6 releases November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
