Miami Heat Are Becoming Vice City for a Night to Promote GTA 6

The Miami Heat are turning into Vice City on November 18 — a custom court, never-before-worn uniforms, and a GTA 6 merch collection, all one night before launch.

The Miami Heat are not just playing a basketball game on November 18. For one night, they are becoming Vice City.

The Heat announced Friday, October 2, that their November 18 home game against the Milwaukee Bucks — the night before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches — will be staged as "A Night in Vice City," a formal partnership between the team, the NBA, Rockstar Games, and Take-Two Interactive. According to USA Today's reporting, the Kaseya Center will be transformed into an immersive Vice City experience for the evening. Three things are confirmed so far: a never-before-seen custom court design built around the fictional city, an all-new uniform the team has never worn, and a GTA 6 merchandise collection of T-shirts, hoodies, and hats.

The campaign actually began a day earlier. On Thursday, October 1, the Heat lit a neon sign reading "Welcome to Vice City" atop the Kaseya Center — the opening shot of a marketing push the team says will include more announcements in the weeks leading up to the game.

This is the latest and loudest step in Rockstar's real-world takeover of Miami, and the strategy is not subtle. GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar's fictional Florida, with Vice City as its Miami stand-in — and Rockstar is spending the final 46 days before launch blurring the line between the two. Large GTA 6 signs have gone up in downtown Miami in partnership with Miami-Dade county, and a massive GTA 6 mural is currently being painted in Brooklyn. An NBA game played on a Vice City court, in Vice City uniforms, one night before the game ships, is the most mainstream crossover the campaign has attempted yet.

For fans, the practical details: tip-off is 7 p.m. ET at the Kaseya Center, and the game is set to air nationally on ESPN. The Heat have said more event details — including what the "game-night activations" actually involve, and whether any start as early as NBA Opening Night — are still to come.

It is also a reminder of how unusual this launch is. Movie studios buy out sports arenas for premieres; game publishers rarely get NBA teams to rebrand themselves for a night. Rockstar has not needed to explain itself — with the game 46 days out, the marketing machine is simply running through every channel that reaches the city the game is modeled on.

Grand Theft Auto 6 releases November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
