Twitch CEO Says GTA 6 Multiplayer Arrives in 2027
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg he expects "an even bigger" Twitch bump in 2027 "when they launch multiplayer" — after direct conversations with Rockstar. Rockstar hasn't confirmed a word of it.
One of the biggest unanswered questions about GTA 6 may have just been answered by accident. In an interview with Bloomberg this week, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the platform spent "a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans" — and then casually told the world that GTA 6's multiplayer arrives "next year."
"You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer," Clancy said. Bloomberg itself characterized the 2027 timing as Clancy's anticipation rather than a confirmed date, but the confidence with which he said it — after direct conversations with Rockstar — is what has the community paying attention.
It lines up with what Rockstar has confirmed
When the company revealed GTA 6's pricing and preorder details in June, it described the game as a "single-player experience," launching November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. No multiplayer. No online mode. Not even a name for whatever comes next.
That would also fit Rockstar's history. GTA 5 launched on September 17, 2013 with no multiplayer; GTA Online arrived a few weeks later and went on to become one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time. What Clancy is suggesting is a much longer gap between the single-player launch and the online component.
Why Rockstar might wait
There's a business reason to read Clancy's words carefully. GTA Online still makes serious money for Take-Two, and the company recently told shareholders it will "continue to support GTA Online after the GTA 6 release and beyond." Rockstar has to thread a needle: launch the new game's online mode without cannibalizing the old one.
Clancy also argued that other publishers are right to "get out of its way" — that GTA 6 will grab gamers' attention through at least January, and that the game will bring lapsed viewers back to Twitch. Whether or not 2027 turns out to be right, Rockstar has not confirmed a single word of it. Take every CEO-adjacent tease for what it is: a hint, not an announcement.
