'Welcome to Vice City' Sign Now Installed on Kaseya Center Roof After $975,000 Rockstar Deal

The giant "Welcome to Vice City" sign went up on the Kaseya Center roof on September 22 — lifted by helicopter under Rockstar's $975,000 deal with Miami-Dade County, and staying on Miami's skyline for at least a year.

Miami is starting to look like Vice City — literally. A giant "Welcome to Vice City" sign was installed on the roof of the Kaseya Center, home of the NBA's Miami Heat, on September 22, with crews lifting the pink-and-white lettering into place by helicopter before bolting it down. The sign is readable from the air, giving passengers on flights landing at Miami International Airport a direct view of Rockstar Games' biggest real-world marketing move yet for Grand Theft Auto VI.

The deal behind it is nearly as eye-catching as the sign itself. Rockstar is paying just under $1 million for the placement, with Miami-Dade County collecting $975,000 because the county owns the arena. The agreement was announced during the county's second budget hearing. Miami's WLRN reported that Mayor Daniella Levine Cava signed the agreement herself using her authority to approve contracts under $1 million without a full commission vote.

A year on the skyline

So far, the arena roof is the only deal that has actually been signed. The agreement requires the sign to stay up for at least a year, through the Heat's final 2026-27 home game on April 11, 2027, with an installation deadline of October 15.

What got cut

The rooftop sign is a scaled-down version of what was originally floated. Discarded ideas included renaming parts of Miami International Airport to "Vice City Airport" (the sheriff declined) and a ~$4M Miami Beach campaign that was never signed. One commissioner objected that the promotion celebrates a game in which police officers are killed; another replied simply that it is a video game — and likely to be a marketing phenomenon.

The Sahara Arena connection

Fans will appreciate one detail most: the Kaseya Center already has a fictional counterpart in the game — the Sahara Arena, home of the fictional Vice City Narcos basketball team. Now the real building carries the fictional city's name, eight weeks before players explore it themselves.

Rockstar has not commented publicly. Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
